This is our first stop, for the past five years when attending the beer festival. What a great place, start with a bloody mary the garnish bar kicks but.

This bar and Paul's Club are the two best bars in the capitol/state st. area. Genna's has two distinctively different floors each with a unique atmosphere. Second floor is great for a date place on the weekdays and gets ya all licked up on the weekends. The drinks are good and strong. The first floor has a great happy hour and is usually comprised of a different grouping of people regularly.
The best feature, though, is the outdoor terrace which has about seven tables or so. Drinking some Bell's Obereon in the afternoon sun in June is top-notch! Top-Notch!!

Unique laid-back atmosphere makes this a great bar. If you want to avoid the typical State Street crowds, stop in here. Yes, it is artsy-fartsy, but it is a great place where everyone can relax (especially after a Badger victory).

This place is on a 5 way corner within falling distance of the Capitol building. It's a cozy place with a nice selection of midwestern micros on tap, most notably New Glarus products. This may be as artsy-fartsy as Madison gets, but everyone's friendly.
